After studying singing at the Oslo conservatory (1906-13) he continued with Bergljot Ibsen (the daughter of poet Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson), L. Haanshus and M. Hagermann in Berlin (1913-14). After his concert debut in Oslo (1916) he joined the Opera comique (1918-21), performed in Copenhagen, Stockholm and all over Norway. Furthermore, he worked as a teacher at the Oslo conservatory since 1923.
