She began as a member of the Female Student Choir in Oslo and after studying choir conducting at the conservatory in Berlin (1935), orchestral conducting at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm (1938-39) and separately with Fartein Valen, she took over the leadership of the Female Student Choir and worked as a piano teacher.
