After studying law (graduation 1922) he studied music with Henrik Due, Oscar Holst, Emil Nielsen, Elisabeth Munthe-Kaas, Per Winge, Arild Sandvold and Fartein Valen. He became the conductor of the Oslo University choir in 1929 and gave classes for singing and conducting since 1942.
