Born in Hungary Ipolyi was a member of the legendary Budapest-quartet until he emigrated to Norway in 1936. He settled in Bergen where he was arrested on 26th October 1942 during a mass arrestation of Jewish people in Norway (“Jødeaksjonen”). He was sent to Berg prison on 29th or 30th October 1942 and was released on 21st January 1943. He was arrested again on 20th April 1943, sent to Bredtveit prison and sent further to KZ Grini (#7553). On 16th February 1944 he was sent back to Berg prison and was released on liberation day 8th May 1945.
