He was the son of violinist Henrik Adam Due (1891-1966) and the pianist Mary Barratt Due (1888-1969), both the founders of the famous music institute in Oslo. In addition to his violin training with his father he also studied piano with Dag Kristoffersen and music theory with Trygve Torjusen and Karl Andersen.
He debuted in Oslo’s University Aula in September 1940, after the Second World War performing in the Nordic countries, Great Britain and the United States of America. In 1970 he succeeded his parents to run the Barrat Due Musikkinstitutt together with his sister Esther Fladmoe.
