Pianist Trygve Stangeland grew up in a family of nine children. His father ran a music store and Trygve decided to become a concert pianist, studying in Germany and France. It seems that a sustained illness set an end to his career as a performer and he became a music teacher instead. Probably since 1937 he lived together and also collaborated artistically with poet Torvald Tu.
